Ron Slay selected to Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame

Former Tennessee basketball player Ron Slay will be inducted into the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.

Slay played at Tennessee from 1999-2003 and totaled 1,569 points over his four-year career. He is the 17th all time leading scorer in program history.

Slay appeared in 109 games for the Vols and helped Tennessee win the 1999-2000 SEC regular-season championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 for the first time since 1981.

In four seasons, Slay averaged 14.4 points per game. As a senior, he averaged 21.2 points per game to lead the SEC. Slay was named Associated Press SEC Player of the Year and received AP third-team All-America honors.

A native of Nashville, Tennessee, Slay was a third-team All-SEC standout in 2000-01 and led Tennessee to a second consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance. Following his college career, he played professional basketball for 13 years in the United States, Bulgaria, France, Israel, Italy, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and Venezuela.

Slay now serves as a studio analyst for SEC Network.

The 2025 Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony, presented by the Tennessee Titans, will take place July 19 at Omni Nashville in Nashville, Tennessee.
