RUSTON — One of Ruston High School’s all-time greatest football players is returning to the sidelines.

Former Bearcats defensive coordinator, LSU alumnus and 13-year NFL veteran Kyle Williams will be the team’s assistant head football coach as well as the assistant athletics director. The Lincoln Parish Journal was the first to break this news.

Williams, a three-sport letterman at Ruston, was the team’s defensive coordinator from 2022-24 and was a critical figure in the Bearcats winning the LHSAA Division I nonselect championship in 2023. Under Williams’ guidance, the Bearcats limited their opponents to 16.7 points per game with three shutouts. He then joined LSU’s coaching staff in January 2025.

Ruston finished state runners-up last fall, losing to Ouachita 21-20 in the D-I nonselect finals.
