Rūta Meilutytė & Danas Rapšys Lead Lithuania Team To World Championships
Rūta Meilutytė spearheads an 11-strong Lithuania squad that will head to Singapore for the 2025 World Championships.
The 28-year-old won her first world title at Barcelona 2013 where she set a European 100m breaststroke record of 1:04.52 in prelims before going on to set the then world standard of 1:04.35 in semis. Meilutytė went on to win the title in 1:04.42 to add to the Olympic crown she’d made her own in London a year earlier. She also lowered the WR over 50m to 29.48 in semis before finishing second behind Yuliya Efimova in the final.
Since then she’s gone on to add four more titles – including the 50 at the last edition in Doha – among a further six medals. Following the 2024 worlds, Meilutytė underwent foot surgery less than five months before Paris 2024 where she finished 11th in semis in 1:06.89.
Danas Rapšys won his first global long-course medal in Doha where he finished second behind Hwang Sun-Woo in the 200 free. He then went on to finish joint fifth in Paris alongside Lukas Märtens.
The pair will be joined by European breaststroke medallists Andrius Šidlauskas and Kotryna Teterevkova with the latter also selected for the European U23 Championships in Samorin, Slovakia, from 26-28 June.
