Daniel Hemric won for the second time in 324 career NASCAR starts on Friday night in the Truck Series race at Martinsville. Moments after the victory, fans and those in the broadcast booth wondered if the McAnally-Hilgemann Racing driver would pull off his trademark backflip.
And he did off the roof of his No. 19 truck.
“He sticks it,” Jamie Little said of the move from the FS1 broadcast booth.
A couple minutes later after grabbing the checkered flag and receiving congratulations from his crew and team owner, the 34-year-old driver talked about his race and made an admission about his post-race celebration when asked by pit reporter Josh Sims.
“You know the funny thing is my wife asked me a couple weeks ago if I felt like I was young enough and not too old to do it,” Hemric said of the flip. “I said I better practice once.
"So last week in our backyard I cut a backflip on the flat ground and thought the old man’s still got it. And proved that tonight.”
After the broadcast showed interviews with other drivers, including runner-up finisher Tyler Ankrum and Corey Heim, who led a race-high 149 laps and dominated before a late incident, the camera returned to the winner, who was being congratulated by Cup Series Team Penske driver Ryan Blaney.

Interestingly, after a hug and congratulatory handshake, the 2023 champion moved over to the race-winning truck and pointed to the noticeable dent on the roof. Hemric responded by leaning inside the truck and pounding out the roof damage with his hand.
Hemric and the Truck Series have a week off before returning to action at Bristol Motor Speedway on April 11. Race coverage begins at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1.
