Second-round pick Ryan Conwell overcame a slow shooting start to make a strong impression in his Summer League debut at the California Classic, according to Ira Winderman of The South Florida Sun Sentinel.

After struggling to find his rhythm early, the rookie stayed aggressive and finished with 21 points, three rebounds, and three assists in 29 minutes of action.

Conwell, who signed a three-year standard contract with the Miami Heat after being selected with the 37th overall pick in this year’s draft, credited his confidence and preparation for helping him bounce back after a difficult first half.

“I spent so many hours in the gym and I have teammates and coaches that believe in me, so it’s no need to drop my head on one missed shot, and especially in the first half,” Conwell said.

“I feel like I got some really good looks and they just didn’t go in. But I just control what I control and continue just to bring a joy to the team. So, yeah, that’s who I am and that’s who I’m going to try to be to the best of my ability.”
