New York Liberty all-star point guard Sabrina Ionescu is one of the most recognizable faces in the WNBA. Unfortunately, Ionescu suffered an ankle injury during the Liberty’s preseason game against the Connecticut Sun.
“Chris DeMarco confirms what the replay showed. Sabrina Ionescu rolled her left ankle. She’ll get an MRI tomorrow,” The Athletic’s Annie Costabile reported on X following the injury.

On Monday, Costabile followed up with Ionescu’s outlook following the injury.
“Sabrina Ionescu (left foot) will miss at least two weeks, a team source confirmed to The Athletic. Ionescu had an MRI today after rolling her left ankle in last nights game, the results of which showed she avoided any “significant” injury. She will be reevaluated in 2 weeks,” she reported.
With Ionescu set to miss the start of the season, the Liberty will lean on former MVPS Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones, as well as electrifying French guard Marine Johannes.
“I think we did a pretty big leap. Just talking to teammates about our practices. People are feeling more comfortable. I think it showed tonight. We’re nowhere near perfect going into the season, but we understand what our foundation is,” Jones said of where the team is at after the game.
