A look at the MHSAA boys high school state swimming and diving championships. Here is what happened across Michigan in three divisions.
Division 1
Saline High School used its depth and three event wins to claim the MHSAA Division 1 title with 291.5 points.
Ann Arbor Pioneer was second with 263, followed by Northville (224), Zeeland (176), Detroit Catholic Central (175), Grandville (134), Milford (111), South Lyon (101), Bloomfield Hills (95) and Holland West Ottawa (85), rounding out the top 10.
Saline’s Issac Adanin won the 200 IM in 1:48.24, holding off defending champion Owen Stevens of Zeeland (1:48.38). Adanin also won the 100 breaststroke in 56.23.
Saline’s Diego Valdes won the 100 butterfly (49.15).
Zeeland’s Owen Stevens won the 500 free in 4:23.65 to break the Division 1 record in the event and complete a three-peat. He is second in all divisions in Michigan history now sandwiched behind Clay Youngquist and ahead of Peter Vanderkaay.
Ann Arbor Pioneer’s Cam Kline, Elijah Almeida, Edward Zhang and Henry Baumhover won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:32.66.
Northville’s Brady Stenson won the 200 free in 1:38.06, holding off Zhang (1:38.33).
Detroit Catholic Central’s Camren Turowski won the 50 free in 20.41, just ahead of Baumhover (20.91). Turowski also won 100 free (44.64).
East Kentwood’s Fiedle Byiringiro won diving with 448.80 points and teammate Gus Perton won the Para 50 free in 37.62.
Pioneer’s Zhang, Brighton Han, Charles Knoepp and Baumhover won the 200 free relay in 1:24.66.
Grandville’s Jack Merkel won the 100 backstroke in 48.69.
Northville’s Benjamin Hu, Ace Spicer, Jayden Setyabudi and Stenson won the 400 free relay in 3:06.60.
MHSAA Division 2
University of Detroit Jesuit won the final relay to put a stamp on the team’s Division 2 state championship.
The team finished with 305 points, followed by Byron Center (256.5), Birmingham Seaholm (207), Farmington (149), Rochester Stony Creek (122), Birmingham Groves (121), Forest Hills Central (111), Grand Rapids Northview (105), Midland Dow (102) and Dexter (100.5).
University of Detroit Jesuit’s Evan Tack won the 200 IM in 1:46.28. Teammate Charlie McCuiston won the 200 free (45.45) and Patrick MacKillop won the 100 breast (54.88).
Tack, Jack McCuiston, Matt Garza and Charlie McCuiston won the 400 free relay (3:03.68).
Birmingham Seaholm’s Elliot Rijnovean, Finn Murray, Emmett Knudsen and Quinn O’Neill won the 200 medley relay in 1:30.09.
Rijnovean won the 100 butterfly (47.85) and 100 backstroke (47.10).
Stoney Creek’s Will Cicco won the 200 free in 1:37.36 and 500 free in 4:28.36.
Utica Ford’s Maximus Dexter won the 50 free in 20.75, holding off Forest Hills Central’s Lucas Witham (20.78).
Portage Northern’s William Blind won diving with 508.90 points.
Farmington’s Luke Morden, Joshua Luo, Paul DeMartini and Jack Tomlinson won the 200 free relay (1:24.61).
MHSAA Division 3
Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood claimed the Division 3 championship with 357 points.
Holland Christian was second with 282.5, followed by East Grand Rapids (264), Grand Rapids Christian (191), Hamilton (154), Spring Lake (132), Otsego (110), Detroit Country Day (90), Erie-Mason (86) and Riverview (74), rounding out the top 10.
Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood’s AJ Farner, Joseph Wiater, Ethan Xu and Calvin Meeker won the 200 medley relay (1:33.78).
Farner won the 200 free in 1:40.15 and 100 backstroke in 49.54. Wiater won the 100 breaststroke (56.57).
Sean Lu, Ryan VanDyke, Xu and Farner won the 400 free relay in 3:07.95.
Otsego’s Liam Smith won the 200 IM (1:49.07) and the 100 butterfly (48.68).
Detroit Country Day’s Jack Higgins won the 50 free in 21.01 and 100 free (45.95).
Holland Christian’s Parker Schut won 1-meter diving with 511.95 points, the highest in the MHSAA three divisions.
Plainwell’s Sam Harper won the 500 freestyle (4:34.62).
Grand Rapids Christian won the 200 free relay as Tyler Stinton, Evan Nelson, Sawyer O’Grady and Emmett Vance touched the wall in 1:27.26.
