Sara Curtis Fires Off Italian 50 Free Record Of 24.52

by

Sara Curtis continued her record-breaking streak as she fired off a 24.52 Italian 50 free standard in prelims at the national championships in Riccione.

It was the 18-year-old’s second national record in as many days as she returned to the pool the morning after going 53.01 to win the 100 free and cut 0.17 from the previous record of 53.18, set by Federica Pellegrini back in 2016.

The 2024 European junior champion came into the meet with a PB of 24.56 set at last year’s Italian Championships where she sliced 0.16 from the previous standard of 24.72 set by Silvia di Pietro at the 2022 European Championships in Rome. Curtis now owns the nien fastest times in Italian history.

Curtis will return in the evening for the final.
