Scouting power forward Brady Koehler ahead of 2025-26 Notre Dame basketball season

by

We’re almost there, almost back in the grind of another college basketball season. Before you know it, there will be a foot of snow on the ground, temperatures will be below zero and another Atlantic Coast Conference game going up and down the court inside Purcell Pavilion.

To get you ready for those nights and get you ready for a Notre Dame season that starts Monday, November 3 at home against LIU Brooklyn, we’ll take an alphabetical player-by-player look at the 2025-26 Notre Dame basketball team over the next 13 weekdays (Wednesday October 15 thru Friday, October 31). Who are these guys? What did they do last year? Where do they fit in this one? And what does third-year head coach Micah Shrewsberry think of them?

First Look: Three thoughts following Notre Dame basketball exhibition win at Butler

Quite the Night: What Notre Dame basketball player followed in his father’s Hinkle Fieldhouse footsteps?

We have the answers. Here:

∎ (6) Brady Koehler

Hometown (High School): Indianapolis, Indiana (Cathedral)

Dimensions: 6-foot-10, 205 pounds.

Projected position: Backup wing forward

Class: Freshman

Notable number: Koehler is the first former Cathedral basketball standout to commit to play at Notre Dame for head coach Micah Shrewsberry, a former Cathedral basketball standout himself.

24-25 stats: Averaged 16.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks.

25-26 outlook: The left-hander with a seemingly 11-foot wingspan could sneakily surprise with his length and athleticism and overall basketball knowledge. Koehler is stuck behind older guys (guards/forwards/wings) for playing time, but could separate himself by embracing the dirty-work aspects of defending, rebounding, making shots and fitting in. There’s a lot to work with there, but it remains to be seen how much we see this season. We may see a little; we might see a lot. His best basketball will be down the college road as he gets older, gains weight and figures out how to best use his hoops tools.

Shrews on Koehler: “Some people you look at and they’re thin and you’re like, ‘Ah, that kid’s soft,’ but he is skinny tough. He’s not afraid to put his body on the line and hit people, be physical, post up. His length and ability to block shots is something I don’t think we’ve ever had since I’ve been here.”
