
The SEC has housed several of the best women’s basketball teams in the country this season.
Now several of those programs — including the Texas women’s basketball team, LSU and, of course, South Carolina — will meet up for the conference tournament beginning Wednesday.
At the Statesman, our staff is predicting the results of the tournament. Texas (29-2, 15-1) and South Carolina (27-3, 15-1) tied for first place in the conference and split the season series. Their tiebreaker came down to the third condition, which meant the top seed in the conference tournament was decided by a coin flip.

Not bad for a Texas program playing its first season in the SEC. Can the Longhorns finish the job and win the SEC tournament (March 5-9 in Greenville, S.C.)? Or will South Carolina, which has won two of the last three national championship, rebound from its most regular-season losses since 2021 and hoist the trophy?

Collins Rath said she was torn between who would win the conference tournament, but South Carolina knows how to turn on the championship mentality and they will be a different team in Greenville, S.C. Texas has beaten SC this season but it’s hard to bet against Dawn Staley this time of year. Collins Rath actually has Texas, rated in recent polls as the top team in the country, losing the in tournament semifinals to South Carolina.
