US Nationals Day 5 Finals: Shaine Casas Edges Carson Foster in Men’s 200 IM

Shaine Casas was sensational during prelims and Carson Foster wasn’t far behind in the 200 IM at the 2025 U.S. National Championships.

So the question was, could anyone stop the two training partners?

Casas took the early lead and was still ahead through the breaststroke, just ahead of Foster.

Foster started pulling within striking distance in the freestyle and they fittingly touched the wall together.

“Shaine has been so much fun to train with and has been one of my really close friends. I think it makes it even more fun that we swim the race completely different. It makes it easier because I am not basing my race off of him,” Foster said. “The goal is always to win, but the next best thing is getting second to a teammate.”

Casas was first in 1:55.73 just three hundredths of a second ahead of Foster (1:55.76), as both swimmers put a cap on their sensational weeks, making the team in multiple events.

“It was great meet,” Foster said. “For how much talk there has been about the U.S. men, I swam (extremely fast times) and didn’t win a single event. The U.S. men are pretty strong.”

Trenton Julian finished third in 1:57.59, ahead of Owen McDonald (1:57.98) at US Nationals.
