Simone Manuel Visits Social Kick Podcast (Video Interview)
As an Olympic and world champion, Simone Manuel will be remembered for her excellence in the pool. More important, her infuence on the sport – as an inspiration and trailblazer – will long be recalled. Recently, the American standout sat for an interview with the hosts of the Social Kick Podcast. During her time chatting with Luke Paddington, Bryan Lundquist and John Mullen, the seven-time Olympic medalist discussed a variety of topics.
After qualifying for a third Olympic Games last summer in Paris, Manuel is back in training in Austin, Texas, and noted that she recently raced a few “off” events to get back into the feel of racing. At the Paris Games, Manuel helped the United States to silver medals in the 400 freestyle relay and 800 freestyle relay.
Manuel shared some of the hardest sets she has endured. The first consisted of 60 x 50 LCM. It was two rounds of 30 x 50 with the pattern for the first round: 1 easy, 1 fast, 2 easy, 2 fast with the freestyle on :50 and the fly on :40. etc. freestyle 50, fly on 40, then reverse. On the second round, the pattern alternated.
The second of Manuel’s hardest swimming sets was: 10 x 300 LCM freestyle on a descending interval down to 3:30.
Manuel and the hosts also discussed the importance of women empowerment and the opportunity to inspire diversity in sports. Additionally, Manuel takes time to discuss some of the sets she has logged in training, and how demanding some of the work has been.
