Sky Coach Sends Strong Message About Angel Reese: ‘There’s No Limit’

If there’s one player who’s very eager to compete once again in the WNBA, it must be Chicago Sky star Angel Reese.

She was forced to miss the final stretch of her rookie campaign due to a wrist injury. Prior to the setback, she was doing pretty well, helping the Sky with her two-way tenacity. Reese averaged 13.6 points, a league-best 13.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.

The 22-year-old forward had a productive offseason. She fully recuperated from her wrist injury and won the inaugural championship in Unrivaled, where she was also named Defensive Player of the Year.

New Sky coach Tyler Marsh stated that Reese will have an expanded role in her sophomore year, particularly on offense.

“There’s no limit,” said Marsh in an interview posted by the team. “We want her to be dynamic. We want her to be able to score inside.

“We want to be able to create space for her to have more one-on-one finishes inside and not feel that she’s got to play in a crowd. We want to put the ball on her hands on the perimeter and allow her to facilitate and create off the dribble as well.”

It’s an ambitious vision from the former Las Vegas Aces assistant coach, especially since Reese struggled with her shot last season. She only averaged 39.1% field goals per game, including 18.8% from three-point distance.

The 37-year-old Marsh, however, expressed his belief that Reese is versatile enough to be a central figure on offense. Chicago only won 13 games last season and missed the playoffs.

“She’s one of the more mobile bigs in our league as well so we got to have a free-flowing offense across the board and create opportunities for each other,” added Marsh, who also spent time with the Toronto Raptors and the Indiana Pacers.

The Sky will open their season versus the Indiana Fever on May 17.
