It’s not as simple as this, but the Chicago Sky essentially chose Kamilla Cardoso this offseason over Angel Reese.

They didn’t want to have two interior presences getting in each other’s way any more, and so they traded Reese to the Atlanta Dream for future draft picks.
That has freed Cardoso up to operate in more space, and she’s thriving.
The 6-foot-7 Brazilian center is in her third WNBA season after being the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 draft out of South Carolina.
Right now, she’s putting up career highs in a bunch of categories.

She’s also shooting her best percentage from the floor, 54.2%.
While not personal bests, Cardoso is also doing solidly with 2.0 assists and 1.3 blocks per game, and she’s shooting 71.4% from the foul line on by far the highest volume of her career (4.2 makes out of 5.8 attempts per game).
Her biggest game of the season came last week against the Minnesota Lynx when she went for 24 points on 10-for-14 shooting while grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out five assists.

Cardoso has continued to prove she can pass out of double teams when they arrive, and if they don’t she’s probably going to score.

It was easier to defend Cardoso down low in the past, because Reese was often down there somewhere, too creating a lot of traffic.
Now that Cardoso doesn’t have to worry about her own teammate getting in the way inside, the uber-talented center is thriving.
