Sky’s Angel Reese makes strong statistical case as best rebounder in WNBA history already originally appeared on The Sporting News
Angel Reese’s second WNBA season ended in a shroud of controversy and a lot of questions about where she might play next year.

But she also cemented herself as possibly the greatest rebounder in league history.
Reese now holds the two-best rebounding average seasons the WNBA has ever seen.
As a rookie, she averaged 13.1 rebounds per game.
This season, it was 12.6 rebounds per game.
Prior to Reese entering the league, the best average was 11.9 per game in 2019 by Sylvia Fowles.
Reese’s game could change as her career goes along, but right now, no one goes to grab rebounds like her, at both ends of the floor.
There’s clearly more to winning than rebounds, because the Chicago Sky were simply not good this year. But that also has something to do with the talent around Reese and Kamilla Cardoso. The frontcourt mates need some perimeter help moving forward.

Even then, Reese likely has to up her offensive efficiency to be the star that her name value calls for.
There are still too many “me bounds,” where Reese catches her own miss and goes up again with it, sometimes multiple times.
Finishing near the basket is a key skill, and if Reese can add that, she’s got a chance to take a big step forward in the WNBA.
But even now, Reese stands alone. No one has ever had a rebounding season quite like she has, let alone two.
Even in the midst of some drama and bumps, that’s worth recognizing.
