Social media reacts to UNC dominating Georgetown in basketball

The North Carolina Tar Heels made their long-awaited return to Chapel Hill on Sunday afternoon, hosting the Georgetown Hoyas in another highly-anticipated, non-conference matchup.

UNC and Georgetown last played in 2007, when Tyler Hansbrough was still in college. North Carolina last beat the Hoyas in 1999, when both storied programs faced off in the Maui Invitational.

The Tar Heels proved themselves as a second-half team once again, out-scoring the Hoyas by 15 in second-half action, en route to an 81-61 victory. Not only did UNC (8-1) win its first game against Georgetown in 26 years, but remained a perfect 6-0 at home.

A major part of North Carolina’s early-season success stems from star freshman Caleb Wilson and Arizona transfer Henri Veesaar, the star post duo amongst college basketball’s best. That proved to be the case once again Sunday. Wilson led all scorers with 20 points, while adding 14 rebounds, plus Veesaar netted 18 points and grabbed a game-high 15 boards.

Derek Dixon, who played hero for the Tar Heels during last Tuesday’s big win at Kentucky, scored 14 points in 27 minutes off the bench. Hubert Davis only played nine of his guys, but they all found ways to positively impact the win.

UNC shot a respectable 32 percent from behind the arc, with continued room for improvement. North Carolina’s defense, however, limited the Hoyas (6-3) to just four makes on 23 perimeter attempts (17%).

The Tar Heels are off until Saturday, when they stay home to host USC Upstate for a 2 p.m. tip-off. For now, take a look at social media reactions from today’s win.
