With Caitlin Clark (groin), Aari McDonald (foot) and Sydney Colson (ACL) out for Saturday’s win over the Chicago Sky, Cunningham made her first start at the point guard position. Normally, the former Phoenix Mercury standout plays at shooting guard. Still, she excelled with 16 points and two assists.
However, ahead of Tuesday’s game against Dallas, Cunningham ran into some car trouble. As she was walking into Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Cunningham mentioned that she had to walk to the arena because her car had broken down. To make the matter worse, Cunningham was wearing high heels.
“I walked here today,” Cunningham said. “My car broke down… I’m actually not lying… Just sweating a bit, it’s fine.”

Cunningham, 28, has been a big factor in her first season with the Fever. Through 27 games, she is averaging 8.7 points on 48.1% shooting, 3.7 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. Initially, Cunningham started the season on the bench before replacing Lexie Hull in the starting lineup in July.
The Fever have been without Clark for the last ten games, still managing a 6-4 record. Still, Cunningham and the Fever are eager to get their All-WNBA point guard back.

“If we can continue to win without her, of course, we want her to play, though,” Cunningham said. “I want her to play. But if we can be successful without her, give her a little bit more break. I think that’s going to be good.”

Following the Wings game, Cunningham and the Fever will finish a three-game homestand on Friday, facing the Washington Mystics at 7:30 p.m. ET.
