Source – Dolphins reach 1-year deal with RB Alexander Mattison

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Dolphins have agreed to a one-year contract with running back Alexander Mattison, a source confirmed Thursday.

The former Las Vegas Raider joins a running backs room led by De’Von Achane and Jaylen Wright, who coach Mike McDaniel said the team expects to lean on in 2025.

Mattison could slot in as a short-yardage back this season — an area in which Miami struggled in 2024.

Also Thursday, the Dolphins agreed to re-sign offensive lineman Liam Eichenberg to a one-year contract, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Eichenberg, 27, was the 42nd overall pick in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft by the Dolphins and has started along the team’s offensive line since. He has started games at tackle, guard and center during his time with Miami.

Mattison, 26, appeared in 14 games and made seven starts for the Raiders in 2024.

He totaled 132 carries for 420 yards and four touchdowns. Mattison also had 36 catches for 294 yards on 48 targets. Even though Mattison led the team in rushing yards, he averaged a career-low 3.2 yards per carry.

Mattison eclipsed 50 yards only twice. His best performance came against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 7 when he rushed for 90 yards on 23 yards. He rushed for fewer than 30 yards in eight games.

Mattison signed a one-year deal with Las Vegas after he spent five seasons in Minnesota, where he was a third-round selection in 2019. He rushed for at least 400 yards in his first three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. In 2023, he posted a career-high 700 yards on 180 attempts in 16 games.

Overall, Mattison has played in 89 games (26 starts), totaling 716 carries for 2,790 yards and 15 touchdowns.

The news of Mattison’s agreement was first reported by Fox Sports.

ESPN’s Ryan McFadden contributed to this report.
