Source: Free agent Alohi Gilman reaches deal with Chiefs

Free agent safety Alohi Gilman agreed to a three-year, $24.75 million deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, a source told ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler on Monday night.

The deal includes $15 million guaranteed.

Gilman, 28, helped stabilize the Baltimore Ravens‘ defense after being acquired from the Los Angeles Chargers in early October. Baltimore held teams to an average of 18.4 points after the addition of Gilman, who started 12 games at deep safety, which allowed Kyle Hamilton to move closer to the line of scrimmage.

Gilman’s biggest play for Baltimore came in a 24-0 win at the Cincinnati Bengals in December, when linebacker Kyle Van Noy intercepted Joe Burrow‘s pass and then quickly handed the ball to Gilman. He ran 84 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Known for his ability to quickly diagnose pass plays, Gilman became one of Baltimore’s leaders in the secondary. He finished as the Ravens’ sixth-leading tackler with 68, but he struggled at times to wrap up ball carriers.

A sixth-round pick by the Chargers in 2020, Gilman has totaled 320 tackles, five interceptions, 27 passes defended, five forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries for the Chargers and Ravens.

ESPN’s Jamison Hensley contributed to this report.
