Sources – Yankees trading for Rockies 3B Ryan McMahon

The New York Yankees are acquiring third baseman Ryan McMahon in a trade with the Colorado Rockies, sources confirmed to ESPN on Friday.

The Yankees are sending two minor league pitchers, left-hander Griffin Herring and right-hander Josh Grosz, to the Rockies in return, a source said.

The deal fills multiple needs for the Yankees, who were seeking a left-handed bat and a replacement for Oswald Peraza (.147 batting average) at third base.

The 30-year-old McMahon, who hit home runs in the first two games after the All-Star break and another on Tuesday, is on pace to keep his four-year 20-homer streak alive. He boasts above average power and patience and is one of the best defensive third basemen in the game, but he has a more middling contact rate and baserunning value.

Having played for the Rockies since entering the majors in 2017, McMahon, who earned his first All-Star selection in 2024, has two years and $32 million remaining on his contract after this season.

MLB.com first reported on the trade.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Jorge Castillo and Kiley McDaniel contributed to this report.
