COLUMBIA — South Carolina women’s basketball star MiLaysia Fulwiley has reportedly entered the transfer portal, after The Greenville News reported on Friday afternoon that Fulwiley planned to enter.

On3’s Talia Goodman reported via X, formerly known as Twitter, on April 14 that Fulwiley was in the portal with a “do not contact” tag.

A do not contact tag means the player in the portal only wants to be contacted by other schools if they (the player) reach out or initiate the contact first. Some assume that athletes already have a destination in mind with this tag.

Fulwiley, a 5-foot-10 guard, averaged 11.7 points per game this season as a sophomore, second best on the Gamecocks. South Carolina lost to UConn in the national championship game on April 6, and in her freshman season, Fulwiley was part of the team that went undefeated and won the national title.

She was named SEC Sixth Player of the Year in March after averaging 18.9 minutes off the bench. She shot 42.6% from the field and 25.8% from the 3-point line.

She scored 23 points in the Sweet 16 win against Maryland on March 28, the third time this season she scored 22 or more. She had a season-high 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting on Feb. 23 against Vanderbilt

Fulwiley was responsible for some of the most highlight-worthy plays in Colonial Life Arena, displaying frequent behind-the-back fancy passes, and even hitting long 3-pointers at the buzzer.

Her natural skill isn’t easy to replicate, something Staley frequent told her and the media the past two seasons.

Last year she became the first freshman in program history to win SEC Tournament MVP after scoring 24 points in the championship game against LSU on March 10, 2024. Shortly after that, she became the first college athlete to sign with Steph Curry’s brand, Curry Brand. This season, she debuted two custom shoes with the company.

When Fulwiley chose South Carolina as a five-star recruit, she became the new hometown hero, just as A’ja Wilson had been. Fulwiley went to Keenan High School, less than 10 miles from Colonial Life Arena.

Before selecting South Carolina, the other schools in her top five were Ole Miss, Miami, Louisville and Florida.
