COLUMBIA — South Carolina women’s basketball and UConn will not schedule a game during the 2025-26 regular season, according to The CT Insider.

The Greenville News contacted a spokesperson from both South Carolina and UConn’s athletic departments. South Carolina could not confirm or deny the report June 27.

It would be the first time in 12 years that the two powerhouse programs didn’t play in the regular season.

This past season, South Carolina hosted the Huskies on Feb. 16 and lost 87-58. The Gamecocks had a chance at revenge in the 2025 national championship but fell once again, losing 82-59 on April 6.

South Carolina is 5-11 vs UConn.

South Carolina’s Dawn Staley is the only coach to beat Geno Auriemma in a national championship game. He picked up his 12th ring this season, three years after Staley picked up her second by beating UConn in 2022. Auriemma has the most titles in women’s basketball history, and Staley is tied for fourth with three.

Before the two sweeping defeats in 2025, South Carolina had won the last four games against the Huskies. UConn won the first eight meetings, which first began in 2007 before Staley was hired.

This WNBA season, Auriemma has a league-high 15 former players on different rosters, and Staley is third with 10. Most recently, Bree Hall who lost in the title game with South Carolina is now teammates with Kaitlyn Chen, who won with UConn. Hall joked on X afterwards that she wanted the two players’ fan bases to unite now that they are both on the Golden State Valkyries.

The Gamecocks have five non-conference games set so far this season, four of which are on the road. They travel to Los Angeles to play Southern Cal. (Nov. 15), Las Vegas to play in a tournament with Duke, Texas and UCLA (Thanksgiving week), Louisville for the ACC/SEC Challenge (Dec. 4), and Florida to play USF (Dec. 18).

According to the Providence women’s basketball schedule, the Gamecocks host the Friars on Dec. 28.
