COLUMBIA — After two road games to open the season, South Carolina women’s basketball returns to Colonial Life Arena for its 2024-25 home opener.
The No. 1 Gamecocks (2-0) will celebrate their most recent national championship before taking on Coppin State (2-1) on Thursday (7 p.m., SEC Network+). This is the second straight year that the Eagles have faced the defending national champion, losing to LSU last December.
South Carolina defeated then-No. 8 NC State 71-57 on Sunday in the 2024 Ally Tipoff in Charlotte. The Gamecocks were led by starting guard Te-Hina Paopao, who had a career-high 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting, and sophomore MiLaysia Fulwiley who added 18 points off the bench.
Junior forward Ashlyn Watkins was suspended until last week, and played her first game Sunday, but junior Chloe Kitts did not play due to an academic policy issue.
Both are expected to play Thursday.
