St. Francis women win on road
DOVER, Del. – The St. Francis women’s basketball team defeated Delaware State 69-60 Thursday morning.
Jade Campbell led the Red Flash (2-8) in points and rebounds with 17 and 19, respectively. Both are career highs for Campbell as she tallied the first double-double of her career. Natalie Johnson notched a career-high 14 points.
St. Francis outscored Delaware State 11-5 in the final five minutes of the game. St. Francis led by three, and a layup by Cambell advanced the Red Flash advantage to 60-55. After free throws by Airah Lavy, a jump shot by the Hornets narrowed the lead. Johnson tabbed a jumper with just under four minutes, with free throws by Yanessa Boyd putting St. Francis ahead by nine. Johnson made a layup in the paint. A free throw by Lavy with just over a minute left in the game made it 69-57.
The Red Flash went on a seven-point run midway through the first quarter. A triple from Lavy gained the lead before back-to-back layups by Harris Robinson advanced the score to 12-6.
Down 24-20 in the second quarter, 3-pointers by Johnson and Ineivi Plata tied the game at 26-all. Campbell tallied back-to-back layups late in the third quarter, giving St. Francis a 50-47 lead heading into the fourth.
St. Francis’ 49 rebounds, including 19 from Campbell, is the most for the Red Flash this season.
With 12 points, Lavy has now tabbed four games in double digits. Plata led St. Francis with four assists.
Najah Lane led Delaware State (3-5) with 14 points. Ericka Huggins provided a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
