It was another undefeated week for St. John’s, who built their winning streak to eleven games after victories over Xavier and Providence last week. Unfortunately for them, they did not move in the rankings for another week.
The Red Storm were ranked No. 17 in the AP Top 25 men’s basketball poll for a second consecutive week. Michigan State and North Carolina each tumbled five spots after defeats to unranked teams on the road, but that was not enough for the Johnnies overtake them.
Conference rival UConn inched one spot up to No. 5 after knocking off Butler and Georgetown, switching spots with now-sixth-ranked Iowa State after they lost to TCU on the road. The Red Storm and the Huskies are yet again the only Big East teams ranked in the AP poll. Villanova gained a dozen more votes to receive 29 votes in this week’s poll, the fourth-most among unranked teams.
