Stanford Secures 2027 Verbal From CIF Runner-Up Alex Pletcher

NEW COMMIT: Stanford University, eight-time national champion, has scored a new verbal commitment for the 2027-28 season and beyond from in-state standout Alex Pletcher of San Diego, Calif.

Pletcher is a Junior National qualifier who specializes in sprint freestyle and butterfly.

Short and sweet, he announced on Instagram by saying:

Go Get ‘Em. GO CARD! 

Pletcher does his club swimming with Sea to Desert Swim Association. He most recently competed at Juniors West in December where he placed fourth in the 200 free, eighth in the 100 free, 15th in the 200 fly and 22nd in the 50 free. Last summer, he finaled in five events at Sacramento Futures before going on to compete at Junior Nationals.

His best times include:

  • 50 free – 20.15
  • 100 free – 43.70
  • 200 free – 1:35.63
  • 500 free – 4:33.80
  • 100 fly – 48.56
  • 200 fly – 1:47.85

Currently a junior at Point Loma High School, Pletcher finished second in the 200 free and fourth in the 100 free at the 2025 CIF State Championships after winning both events at the CIF San Diego DII Section Championships.

Pletcher all plays for Point Loma’s football team. He is a USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and NISCA All-American.

The Cardinal finished second at the 2025 ACC Championships.
