Steelers QB Drew Allar soaking in plenty of knowledge from Aaron Rodgers

The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback room is an even balance of veteran presence and youthful signal-callers who have yet to take an NFL snap.

One of those young quarterbacks is 2026 third-round pick Drew Allar. The Penn State product has spent his first few months in the NFL re-tooling his footwork with the help of head coach Mike McCarthy, offensive coordinator Brian Angelichio, and quarterbacks coach Tom Arth. Throughout the course of OTAs and mandatory minicamp, though, Allar also had the services of Aaron Rodgers to lean on. According to Allar, Rodgers has been an incredible teacher and teammate.

“With me, specifically, he’s pulled me aside during practice to talk through some drill work or things to focus on through different drills,” Allar told the media last week. “In the film room, [he’s] just asking me questions of what I was seeing, what I was looking at and why. [He’s] giving me a lot of good knowledge. I’m really excited to keep learning from him. Obviously he’s one of the best to ever do it in this game. So the opportunity I have is one I’m not going to take for granted.”

The potential with Allar is alluring, and it is why Pittsburgh took a swing on him in the third round. With the progress he’s already made under McCarthy and Co. combined with having the mind of a four-time MVP to pick, there is certainly a high ceiling when it comes to No. 16.
