Stratford, Wynnewood split on the hardwood

The Class 2A No. 9 Stratford Lady Bulldogs wrapped up the regular season at home with 60-32 win over Garvin County rival Wynnewood Saturday at the Bulldogs Gymnasium gaining a split with the Savages.

The Stratford Lady Bulldogs got double-doubles from Erin Henderson, 17 points and 15 rebounds and Jaelee Korzan, 16 points and 10 rebounds. Olivia White scored a game-high 19 points for the Lady Savages.

Stratford got off to a fast start with 9 straight points behind 5 points from Korzan and led 11-2 midway through the opening quarter. Korzan finished with 10 first quarter points as the Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a 22-9 advantage.

Trinity Bess, who was honored recently for 1,000 career points, hit two 3-pointers in the second quarter to pace Stratford to a 35-15 halftime advantage. White had 5 of the 6 second-quarter points for WW.

White helped keep Stratford from pulling even further away in the third quarter, scoring 8 points in the 13-point quarter. Henderson had 5 points in the quarter for Stratford as the Lady Bulldogs took a 49-28 lead into the final quarter.

Stratford pulled away in the fourth quarter behind Henderson’s 5 points, giving the Lady Bulldogs a 60-32 win.

Bess added 11 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Kortnis Green had 5, Callie Sandlin 3, Ryleight Ardery 3 and Sadie Will 3. Dotson added 6 for the Lady Savages. Lopez had 2, Ricalday 2, Wiley 2 and Lewis 1.

The Savages rallied late with an 18-10 fourth-quarter run to beat the Bulldogs in a back-and-forth game.

Wynnewood took a slight advantage into the halftime break, leading 29-27. Stratford took advantage of a 14-8 run to start the second half, grabbing a 41-37 lead heading into the final quarter.

Wynnewood then rallied to secure the win.

Tay Bennett paced all scorers with 23 points for the Savages.

Wynnewood will be at Dibble Thursday for a Class 2A Area IV District 4 playoff game. Stratford hosts Minco Thursday in a Class 2A Area II District 4 playoff championship action.
