Strong Australian Contingent to Race at Westmont Stop of TYR Pro Series

While Summer McIntosh and Regan Smith stand out as two of the headliners for the upcoming Westmont stop of the TYR Pro Series, a small but strong Australian contingent cannot go overlooked. A handful of Aussie Olympians will see action in the Chicago suburbs and bring depth to the field, including five-time Olympic medalist Meg Harris.

The silver medalist in the 50-meter freestyle at last summer’s Paris Games, Harris is scheduled to contest the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle during her visit to the United States. Harris also earned medals in a pair of relays at the most recent Olympics, with her presence in the 400 freestyle relay helping Australia to a world record.

Max Giuliani and Sam Short are slated for multiple freestyle events, according to the initial psych sheets for the Westmont stop. Giuliani is the top seed in the 200 freestyle and the third seed in the 100 freestyle while Short is entered as the top seed in the 400 freestyle and 800 freestyle, and is seeded seventh in the 200 free.

At the Olympics in Paris, Giuliani advanced to the finals of the 200 freestyle, finishing seventh in what was one of the most hotly contested events of the Games. Short, meanwhile, was fourth in the 400 freestyle, just .14 off the podium. Short was also ninth in the 800 free and 13th in the 1500 free.
