Top order batter Tanzid Hasan and wicketkeeper-batter Amite Hasan have earned maiden call-ups to Bangladesh’s Test squad for the first Test against Pakistan in May.
Tanzid has already established himself in Bangladesh’s white-ball teams, while Amite has shown consistency in domestic cricket over the last few years.
Chief selector Habibul Bashar said Tanzid and Amite deserved their places in the Test squad, after being on the radar for a considerable amount of time. Tanzid has one ODI century and six ODI fifties to go with 11 T20I half-centuries. He also has five first-class centuries, averaging 40.72 in 25 matches.
Amite has eleven first-class centuries in 49 matches, averaging 49.32, having scored a 162 in a recent Bangladesh Cricket League match in Sylhet.
“Tanzid has been in our thoughts for Test cricket,” Bashar said. “He has a very good first-class record and we felt he deserved the opportunity to showcase his ability in Tests. He has a sound technique and plenty of natural ability. We are confident that if he gets the chance, he can perform well in the longer format.
“Amite has earned his call-up as he has been one of the most consistent batters in our first-class cricket. His temperament stands out and we believe it is well suited for Test cricket. This format demands patience and discipline, and he has shown those qualities over a sustained period. Both these players have time on their side and can serve Bangladesh for a very long period.”
The selectors also brought back Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed, apart from adding offspinner Nayeem Hasan in the squad. Taskin played the last of his 17 Tests against West Indies in Kingston in December 2024, so that also makes it a significant return in the squad.
They left out fast bowler Khaled Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud, as well as Jaker Ali and Hasan Murad. The first Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan begins in Dhaka on May 8, while the second Test is in Sylhet from May 16.
