Team USA Announces Captains for World Championships

The United States has named its captains for the World Championships in Singapore, where pool swimming will get underway in a little more than a week. As expected, a veteran contingent makes up the leadership roles, including Lilly King, who has announced she will retire after Worlds. Joining King as a captain are Carson Foster, Phoebe Bacon, Michael Andrew, Simone Manuel and Bobby Finke.

A three-time Olympian for Team USA, King will compete in the 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke at Worlds while Foster is scheduled to race the 200 butterfly, 200 individual medley and 400 medley, along with handling a leg on the 800 freestyle relay. Bacon is entered in the 200 individual medley while Finke will compete in the 800 freestyle and 1500 freestyle. Manuel is slated to compete in the 400 freestyle relay and Andrew will race the 50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly.

All six athletes selected to the role of captain have previously represented the United States at the Olympic Games and the World Championships. Like King, Manual is a three-time Olympian.

The United States is taking part in its training camp for Singapore. The pool competition is scheduled for July 27-August 3.
