NEW COMMIT: Lisle, Illinois native Brayden Capen has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Tennessee beginning in Fall 2027. Capen is among the top recruits in the Class of 2031 and he specializes in butterfly, backstroke and IM.

Regarding his commitment, he said:

“I am extremely honored to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Tennessee! I sincerely want to thank Coaches Matt, Caleb, Rich, and Rob for giving me this opportunity! I also would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and everyone that helped me through this entire process! GO VOLS!!!”

Capen does his club swimming with Academy Bullets Swim Club and is a Junior National qualifier. He finished third in the 400 IM, fourth in the 200 back and sixth in the 200 IM at Junior Nationals back in December. Last summer, he won the 200m back and 400m IM at NCSA Summer Championships where he also took second in the 50m back, third in the 100m back and fourth in the 200m IM.

He also represented the United States at the 10th World Aquatics Junior Championships in August 2025, competing in the 400m IM and placing 13th overall.

His best times include:

  • 100 back – 48.41
  • 200 back – 1:43.89
  • 200 IM – 1:46.26
  • 400 IM – 3:49.09
  • 200 free – 1:37.38
  • 500 free – 4:26.60

Currently a junior at Marmion Academy, Capen earned silver in the 200 IM and bronze in the 500 free at the 2025 Illinois State Championships. He most recently won both of those events at the 2026 IHSA Metea Valley Sectional Championships.
