The Texas Longhorns made a major addition to their 2025 recruiting class on Wednesday, securing a commitment from five-star wide receiver Kaliq Lockett out of Sachse High School in Dallas. Lockett, the highest-ranked wide receiver to commit during head coach Steve Sarkisian’s tenure.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 175 pounds, Lockett is ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver and the No. 12 overall prospect in the 2025 class, according to 247 Sports. His junior season showcased his dominance on the field, as he recorded 59 receptions for 1,299 yards and 13 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 22 yards per catch. In an analysis of him, scouting analysts compared him to the likes of Green Bay Packers WR Romeo Doubs.
Lockett’s athleticism extends beyond the field. A standout in track and field, he posted a 23.08-second 200-meter dash as a junior and contributed to his school’s 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams. As a sophomore, Lockett achieved a long jump of 20 feet, 11.5 inches, and a triple jump of 42 feet, 4 inches, further highlighting his explosiveness and speed.
Lockett chose Texas over a host of top programs, including Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, and Florida State. He cited the Longhorns’ coaching staff as a major factor in his decision.
“I know that if I go there, I know I’ll be successful and I know that Coach Jackson and Coach Sark will put me in the best position to win, and the best position to be one of the best receivers in college football,” Lockett told 247 Sports.
Lockett’s commitment marks another win for Sarkisian and his staff as they continue to build a powerhouse recruiting class for 2025, which at the time of publication, ranks as No. 1 in the nation according to On3.
