Texas A&M basketball: Lauren Ware’s double-double leads Aggies to 85-60 win

by

After a bumpy start to the season, Texas A&M women’s basketball got a strong 85-60 win Monday over Texas Southern.

Redshirt junior Lauren Ware led the way for the Aggies with a game full of season highs on her second double-double of the year. It was the 14th double-double of her career with 12 points and 18 rebounds to go along with seven blocks.

A&M’s single-game blocked shot record for women’s basketball is held by Danielle Adams with 10.

A&M could not separate from the Tigers in the first quarter. But guard Jada Malone’s seven points in the final minutes of the first quarter put the Aggies back in front after a 13-5 Texas State run.

The Aggies dominated in every asset of the floor, including turnovers with 23 on the night to Texas Southern’s 17. But 32 of 61 field goal shooting and getting 46 rebounds made up for the sloppiness. In addition to Ware’s dominance, Solé Williams led the way for the Aggies with 17 points and was six-of-nine from the field. Amira Abdur-Rahim came off the bench with 12 points and five rebounds.

Texas Southern’s Courtlyn Loudermill led the Tigers in scoring with 12 points. Jaida Belton and Anela Thomas came off the bench with 12 points and 10 rebounds, respectively. Thomas also finished with 10 rebounds.

Texas A&M plays Mississippi Valley State on Dec. 19 before beginning the SEC slate Jan. 2 against Tennessee.
