Texas A&M’s 2026 spring practice season is off and running, and over the next two weeks, coach Mike Elko and his staff will continue to host a wide range of 2027 prospects, and have already hosted priority four-star safety Alabama-based Junior Tu’upo, who spoke with Rivals/On3 recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong to discuss his visit, and where he stands with the Aggies heading into the summer.
Also considering BYU, Auburn, and the Florida Gators, Tu’upo praised coach Mike Elko and his staff’s focus on building and sustaining an elite defense, while it’s clear the blue-chip prospect did his homework, noting that Elko himself was a standout safety during his playing days at Penn, and quickly became one of the top secondary coaches in the country over the span of his 20-plus year coaching career.
“I just think any defensive back in the country has to consider them because of the head coach being a former safety himself.”
So far, Elko has landed four defensive back commitments in the 2027 class, headlined by five-star safety Kamarui Dorsey and five-star cornerback Raylaun Henry, while four-star JayQuan Snell is one of the hardest-hitting safeties in the cycle and should be a five-star prospect by the end of the year.

Tu’upo is in the same realm talent-wise as all three prospects mentioned, and is expected to be back in College Station sooner than later after what can only be described as a highly successful trip that could result in a commitment in due time.
“This whole process has been fun and really eye-opening,” he said. “I’m really glad I got a chance to visit College Station. I can definitely see why Coach Elko has turned it into one of the best programs in the country. As far as where they stack up it’s right up there with best visits I’ve had so far. I enjoyed it a lot and especially my time with Coach Elko.”
Tu’upo reported 66 tackles, seven pass breakups and three interceptions last season en route to helping lead his team to a state title. According to Rivals, Tu’upo is the 21st-ranked safety in the 2027 class.
