The 2025 college football season is a little over five months away, and with Texas A&M’s spring football season on the horizon, it’s a good time to evaluate the Aggies’ 2025 roster, which still may add players once the spring transfer portal opens.
After finishing 8-5 during head coach Mike Elko’s inaugural season, A&M’s 1-4 finish, including losses to Texas and USC in the Las Vegas Bowl, was highly disappointing, but due to injuries and quarterback Marcel Reed’s development track as a passer, the Aggies failed to live up to their mid-season expectations after starting 7-0 and 5-1 in SEC play.
Judging Elko after one season isn’t a fair assessment, especially after landing 14 players from the transfer portal while bringing up-and-coming defensive-minded Lyle Humphill to the 2025 coaching staff. However, with Elko taking over the defensive play calling, all eyes are on Marcel Reed to take the next step as a passer behind what looks like the best offensive line in the conference.
Recently, ESPN’s initial SP+ rankings by trusted writer Bill Connelly were released. They are based on three factors, weighted by their predictiveness: returning production, recent recruiting, and recent history.

Ten SEC teams made the Top 25, including Texas A&M (18.5) at No. 12, preceded by No. 10 LSU (19.5), No. 9 Ole Miss (20.2), No. 8 Tennessee (21.3), No. 7 Texas (21.9), No. 4 Georgia (24.5), and No. 2 Alabama (26.1). 15th-ranked Missouri (15.7), No. 16 South Carolina (15.4), No. 20 Oklahoma Sooners (13.1), and 23rd-ranked Auburn Tigers (12.1) finish out the Top 25 for the SEC.
Ranked 6th in returning production (71%), Texas A&M lacks excuses for the 2025 season. Behind a veteran offensive line, star running back Le’Veon Moss returns after his season-ending injury, paired with Rueben Owens, Amari Daneils, and two talented freshmen among a loaded running back room.
Outside of several additions to the wide receiver room, including former NC State star KC Cocepcion, the Aggies’ lack of depth along the defensive line, coupled with some questions in the secondary, has not bred national confidence in the program, which is strictly in “prove it” mode.
