Bucky McMillan didn’t waste any time making his mark in College Station.
Less than a month into his tenure as Texas A&M’s head basketball coach, McMillan has completely overhauled the Aggies’ roster—and he may not be done yet.

On Thursday night, Texas A&M received a prediction from 247Sports insider Travis Branham to land Kansas transfer guard Rylan Griffen, a former top-50 recruit who recently visited campus. If it comes to fruition, Griffen would become McMillan’s ninth commitment from the transfer portal, continuing a furious roster rebuild following Buzz Williams’ departure for Maryland.

Griffen, a 6-foot-5 combo guard, began his career at Alabama before transferring to Kansas ahead of the 2024 season. While his lone campaign in Lawrence fell short of expectations—averaging 6.3 points per game on 37% shooting—he remains a dynamic shooter with upside in the right system. Over his three-year college career, Griffen has demonstrated the ability to stretch the floor and create offense, traits that could flourish in McMillan’s up-tempo, high-scoring attack.
Ranked No. 43 overall in the 2022 recruiting class, Griffen currently sits at No. 79 on 247Sports’ list of top transfer portal players.

The news comes on the heels of another big addition: former Texas Tech forward Federiko Federiko, who committed to the Aggies after visiting earlier this week and attending a Texas A&M baseball game. His commitment marked the eighth portal win for McMillan, who inherited a roster that had been nearly stripped clean after Williams’ exit, with only forward Chris McDermott remaining from last season’s squad.
With the hiring of a veteran staff—including former Texas A&M assistants—McMillan has reenergized recruiting and quickly positioned the Aggies to be competitive in the SEC once again.
Griffen, who was also rumored to be considering a return to Alabama to reunite with Nate Oats, now appears to be leaning toward joining McMillan’s fast-growing roster. If he makes it official, it would be yet another key piece added to one of the most dramatic offseason turnarounds in college basketball.
