Texas A&M women’s basketball traveled to Nashville to play Vanderbilt for its last road game before the SEC tournament, and the Aggies fell hard 91-58 to the Commodores.
A&M had two players reach double figures in scoring, but was undercut by a whopping 30 turnovers. They were without their leading scorers in SEC play — Solè Williams and Aicha Coulibaly — and suffered their ninth loss in a row.
It was one of the better nights on offense for the Aggies who shot 43.4% from the field and had 41 rebounds, but Vanderbilt’s various offensive threats were too much for the Aggies.
Vanderbilt’s freshman guard Mikayla Blakes has been sensational for the Commodores and she finished with 18 points, but forward Khamil Pierre’s 31 points and nine steals dominated the Aggies.
Malone, a junior, finished the night with 12 points and seven rebounds while Ware had 16 points and nine rebounds. After scoring 19 points against Mississippi State, Ware, a senior, had 16 points or more in consecutive games for the first time in her career.

The Commodores had 24 fastbreak points and 41 points off A&M’s turnovers. The limited Aggies squad, which had just seven players available for the game, also had to face a Vanderbilt bench that contributed 25 points.

Vanderbilt took an early 5-0 lead in the first quarter and A&M came back to tie it at nine with Ware’s efforts in the paint. A Ware field goal tied the game at 11 with 1:36 left in the first quarter. But a 13-3 run for the Commodores between was the beginning of the end for any chance the Aggies had of keeping the game close.
Trailing 73-39 in the fourth quarter, A&M pounded the paint for 12 points and eight second chance points thanks to efforts from forwards Jada Malone and Lauren Ware. Six of guard Sahara Jones’ nine points came in the fourth quarter.
The Aggies take to the hardwood of Reed Arena one last time at 2 p.m. Sunday to play Arkansas at 2 p.m.
