Through the first month of the season, Texas basketball has proven it can wallop overmatched foes.
But the competition ratchets up next week for Texas (6-1), which rolled to its sixth consecutive victory Friday with a 90-68 win over Delaware State.
Texas hasn’t lost since a season-opening setback to Ohio State in Las Vegas. That stretch includes a quartet of wins over low-major programs but also victories over Syracuse and Saint Joseph’s at last week’s UKG Legends Classic in Brooklyn.

There’s nothing low about the tests Texas faces next week. The Longhorns travel to North Carolina to take on North Carolina State in an SEC/ACC Challenge matchup Wednesday before returning home to play two-time defending national champion Connecticut Dec. 8 at 4 p.m.
Texas then has a string of four low-major foes before the start of SEC play Jan. 4 at Texas A&M.
Based on how they played against Delaware State (3-5), the Longhorns looks ready enough for the challenge. Freshman guard Tre Johnson, the team’s leading scorer, matched his season average with 21 points. Senior forward Kadin Shedrick recorded his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and senior guard Tramon Mark added a season-high 15 points to go with five rebounds.
