Texas Football lands Aggies OT from NCAA transfer portal

It’s not often a player switches sides in the Lone Star Showdown. But that’s exactly what Texas A&M Aggies offensive tackle Jonte Newman has done. The true freshman has committed to the Texas Longhorns through the NCAA transfer portal.

The Cypress Bridgeland prospect has four full years of eligibility remaining. He was part of the Aggies 2025 recruiting class. When Newman committed in December of 2024, he picked the Aggies over Texas.

The four-star was ranked as the No. 346 player nationally and the No. 20 interior offensive lineman, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Newman didn’t play much in College Station, getting just seven snaps against Samford and Auburn. He took a redshirt at the end of the year.

Newman is the second portal commitment this month for Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood, joining Oregon State transfer guard Dylan Sikorski. He should provide much needed depth at a position of need.
