Texas high school football state title games: Westlake falls to North Crowley

ARLINGTON — Westlake couldn’t stun the Texas high school football world for a second straight week.

After blowing out Galena Park North Shore 35-10 in the semifinals, the Chaps couldn’t keep up with the explosive offense of North Crowley during a 50-21 loss in the Class 6A Division I state championship game Saturday at AT&T Stadium.

Chris Jimerson threw for 299 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 63 yards and a TD, Cornelius Warren III ran for 217 yards and a score and Quentin Gibson hauled in seven passes for 181 yards and 3 touchdowns as North Crowley (16-0) finished with 640 yards of offense.

The Panthers had five touchdowns of at least 44 yards.

Rees Wise ran for 103 yards and two TDs and threw for 155 yards to pace Westlake (14-2).

Grady Bartlett’s 2-yard scoring run tied the game at 7-7 early in the first quarter for the Chaps, but North Crowley scored 28 straight points and the game’s outcome was apparent early in the second half.
