Jason Witten was a human highlight reel during his career with the Dallas Cowboys. Now, his son Cooper Witten is looking to follow in his footsteps and is attracting some of the top programs in the country. That list now includes the Texas Longhorns, who extended an offer to the talented linebacker on Thursday.
Currently, he is ranked as the top linebacker in his class by On3 Rankings. Witten is also ranked as the No. 19 player in the nation and the No. 5 player in Texas. Adding him to the mix would give the Longhorns a massive boost and future star. However, they are facing plenty of competition.

During the recruiting process, the Texas native received offers from Oregon, Arizona State, SMU, Ohio State, Baylor, Notre Dame, and Michigan. So far he has already set visits with Baylor, Tennessee, Oklahoma, LSU, Arkansas, SMU, Michigan, Oregon, and Texas A&M. The Longhorns are hoping to be the next team on that list.
While Witten has a lot to live up to, he has impressed scouts every time he takes the field in high school. He has made life difficult for offensive coordinators and, at times, resembled his father when making difficult catches on defense. Those are encouraging signs for Steve Sarkisian and the rest of the Longhorns coaching staff.
With the recruiting process still in the early stages, Witten’s decision is still weeks away. However, the Longhorns have made their interest clear and are expected to do everything they can to add Witten to their 2027 class.
