Kasi Currie’s recruitment ultimately came down to some big hitters.

In a final four that consisted of Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon and Texas, the four-star defensive lineman out of Chatsworth (CA) Sierra Canyon had his pick of the litter.

Ultimately, Currie decided that Austin proved to be the right fit as he announced his commitment to Texas on Thursday. He took an official visit to Texas on June 5.

247Sports ranks the 6-foot-4.5, 315-pounder as the No. 37 player in the country and the No. 2 defensive lineman. He’s ranked as the No. 5 player in California for the 2027 cycle.

Last season, Currie played both sides of the ball, splitting time at right tackle and defensive tackle. On the defensive side of the ball, he totaled 14 tackles, four tackles for loss and an interception.

Currie adds to a top-heavy 2027 class for Texas

As the summer heats up, Texas fans are hoping that the Longhorns‘ 2027 class continues to do so as well.

Prior to Curries’ commitment, the Longhorns’ class consisted of 13 commitments and ranked No. 26 nationally by 247Sports. Of those 13 pledges, six ranked as four-star prospects or better and four ranked as top-100 recruits.

Five-star wide receiver Easton Royal headlines the class out of Brother Martin (New Orleans, LA). However, the Longhorns are in a recruiting battle with LSU and Florida to keep Royal.

On the defensive line, Currie joins four-star edges Cameron Hall and Derwin Fields as the three four-star defensive line commitments so far. Hall committed to Texas in late January and ranks as the No. 62 player in the country, and Fields is a more recent commitment, choosing the Longhorns on April 18.
