Texas Longhorns women’s basketball remain No. 1 in newest AP Top 25 ranking

by

The Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team remained No. 1 in the AP Top 25 ranking for a second week in a row. The Longhorns beat Georgia, Mississippi State and Florida last week to win a share of the SEC title with South Carolina.

The Lady Longhorns actually lost a coin flip with the Gamecocks for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SEC tournament. Last week, Texas climbed to the No. 1 ranking in the Associated Press’ weekly poll for the first time since Feb. 16, 2004. Texas was also ranked No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll for the first time in program history. UT should hold onto the top spot when that poll is released on Tuesday.

As the No. 2 seed in the SEC tournament, the Longhorns play at 7 p.m. Friday at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, S.C. Their opponent could be Missouri, Mississippi State or Ole Miss depending on early round results.
