Texas Offers Son of NFL Legend

The Texas Longhorns are no strangers to attracting well-known surnames. Steve Sarkisian wooed Arch Manning, Peyton and Eli’s nephew, and will trot the prodigy out as his starting quarterback this upcoming season.

Sarkisian’s after another noticeable name now, as well.

Texas offers 2027 LB Cooper Witten, son of Cowboys legend Jason Witten,” On Texas Football’s CJ Vogel wrote Thursday night on X.

The younger Witten is regarded as the No. 1 linebacker in his recruiting class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings. On that list, he’s rated ahead of Kamarui Dorsey (No. 2), Kaden Henderson (No. 3), and Omarii Sanders (No. 4).

Among Witten’s other offers are LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Tennessee. His father played tight end for the Volunteers from 2000-02. The elder Witten enjoyed a 16-year NFL career spent primarily with the Dallas Cowboys.

Gabe Brooks, a 247Sports scouting analyst, put together a report on Cooper Witten last month.

“Athletic, physical, likely role-versatile second-level defensive piece who plays with a relentless motor,” Brooks wrote. “Natural football IQ, awareness, instincts, etc. are obvious on tape and on the elite camp circuit. … Wants the ball and plays for the ball, as evidenced by impact production through two varsity seasons.”

Witten totaled 45 tackles, a sack, and five interceptions as a sophomore at Liberty Christian School (Tex.). On the offensive side of the ball, he reeled in 15 passes for 263 yards and seven touchdowns. He ran a 10.91-second 100-meter dash this track season, per MileSplit.
