The Texas Tech basketball team has officially entered the offseason and will now start assembling the 2025-26 Red Raiders mostly through the transfer portal, which opened March 24.
The Red Raiders wrapped up the second season under head coach Grant McCasland with a 28-9 overall record, going 15-5 in Big 12 Conference play to finish second in the league standings and advanced to the Elite Eight for just the third time in program history.

Others like Big 12 player of the year JT Toppin and March Madness hero Darrion Williams have to consider their professional options, such as declaring for the 2025 NBA Draft and seeing what happens.

Key transfer portal, NBA Draft dates to know
Here’s a look at some of the key dates involved:
-
Transfer portal opened: March 24
-
Transfer portal closes: April 22 (midnight of April 21 going into April 22)
-
Deadline to declare for 2025 NBA Draft: April 26 (11:59 p.m. ET)
-
NBA Draft Combine: May 11-18
-
NBA Draft Lottery: May 12
-
Deadline to withdraw from 2025 NBA Draft and maintain college eligibility: June 15 (5 p.m. ET)
Something to keep in mind is that any player who isn’t sure about their chances to be taken in the 2025 NBA Draft will likely put their name into the transfer portal at the same time they declare for the draft. This allows for every possibility to remain on the table.

After putting their name into the portal, players can take as long as they want to decide if they want to return to their previous school or find a new school, so long as they withdraw from the draft by 5 p.m. ET on June 15.
Another thing to note is that it sometimes takes a couple days for players to have their name appear in the portal after they or another media outlet announces they’ll be in the portal. So while midnight on April 22 is the date the portal closes, players just have to submit their names to be put into the portal by 11:59 a.m. ET to still qualify for entry.
