The Texas Tech football team will play three of its first four Big 12 games on the road in 2025, starting with a conference opener at Utah on Sept. 20.
Tech has open dates the week after its conference opener and the week before its regular-season finale, meaning the Red Raiders will play seven consecutive weeks in between.
In November 2023, the Big 12 assigned each team’s conference opponents, home and away, for the four-year period from 2024 through 2027. On Tuesday, the conference office revealed the dates for the 2025 season, giving all the schedules an order.

Utah joined the Big 12 this school year and finished 5-7, its first losing record in 11 seasons. Utes coach Kyle Whittingham, who turned 65 in November, ended speculation after the season by announcing he plans to stay for his 32nd season at Utah and 21st as head coach.
The Texas Tech-Utah series history consists of two games the Red Raiders won in 1972 and 1973, both in Lubbock.
After the Utah trip, Tech has an open date the next week, followed by games Oct. 4 at Houston, Oct. 11 against Kansas, Oct. 18 at Arizona State, Oct. 25 against Oklahoma State, Nov. 1 at Kansas State, Nov. 8 against Brigham Young and Nov. 15 against Central Florida.
The Red Raiders are open the following week before the finale Nov. 29 at West Virginia.
Kickoff times are to be announced. The Big 12 said some Saturday games may be moved to Fridays and other special dates. Games on the Friday after Thanksgiving also will be announced in the coming weeks, the conference said.

Tech’s non-conference schedule, previously known, consists of home games against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Kent State and Oregon State.
The 2025 season will be the first time since 1940 that Tech has played so few home games against Texas schools. Houston is the only in-state opponent next season.
In 1940, Pete Cawthon’s last year as head coach, the Red Raiders didn’t play an opponent from Texas. That also was the last year Brigham Young played a football game in Lubbock, which will happen this coming season. The Red Raiders are scheduled to host the Cougars on Nov. 8.
