So far, foot is in my mouth for De’Zhaun Stribling. I was very lukewarm on the pick initially and now I think he might be the guy for a long time. We need to see what he does when the other team is trying to take his head off, but so far I’ve read and seen nothing but good things. We’ll need it too, since the 49ers are down a wide receiver in Ricky Pearsall.

And yes, I know someone was asking me to cast the 49ers in the Odyssey. I have not seen the Nolan epic, though I studied it and the Iliad in college (was my favorite part actually). Given how passionate I am about that, I think a full post on it will be warranted. I just need to see the Nolan film first to get his take on it. If I’m going off just what I remember from the book, Kyle Shanahan would definitely be Odysseus.

Sorry, but Scully hasn’t been returning my calls. I guess she’s moved on. Though I have wondered, and will present the question to everyone: which has been more bizarre? Antonio Brown or Brandon Aiyuk? I still lean to Brown due to things like Mr. Big Chest, getting his feet frozen, and other theatrics, but Aiyuk is definitely fighting for that top spot. As far as the same place at the same time. Someone find a college game from Aiyuk where Brown is playing (maybe there was a Saturday game in December the two played?) That’s the best I can do.
After all of the injuries, is it now the time to hire a Martial Arts trainer who specializes in injury prevention?

all the temporary (mostly) injuries seem to have taken our eyes off the prize if you will, when do you think we get Kittle and M Williams back?

I’m not ready to say that just yet. You could be the Carolina Panthers that are losing multiple players for the season after the first week. The Ricky Pearsall news is devastating; I feel for the kid, but this has been going on since last year, and surgery was seen as the last resort.

Yes, the 49ers have a lot of EDGE pieces sidelined right now, but most should be back. Yes, Stribling was out Saturday with tightness, but that happens to everyone at some point, especially rookies who don’t know what the rigors of training camp entail. I’d rather tightness put them in bubble wrap than have them work through it.
Now, if the 49ers have another injury decimated season like last year—somethign has got to give.
As far as George Kittle and Mykel Williams returning. Williams will be the first. He’s already doing high knees and the like as of yesterday. I’d expect him back later in August. For Kittle, he’s progressing, but I expect him to be activated a few weeks after the season starts.
And for a martial arts trainer? I got just the guy, and it isn’t Mr. Miyagi. Maybe he can bring his buddy along.
There is a lot of commotion around the Shanahan car crash and the fact that the team kept a lid on it and maybe also some of the local media did as well to curry favor with the team. Mike Florio, who is a certified toolshed (apologies to toolsheds everywhere, no harm intended) has gone as far as to compare the situation to the PR failure around the Vrabel/Russini situation. Can you explain why this is supposedly such a big deal? I get that Kyle is a public figure and the face of one of 32 NFL teams, but what difference does it make to have this reported immediately or not?

I’m pretty divided with this. On one hand, there was no foul play or anything like a mistress in the front seat. Just Shanahan grabbing his phone and hitting someone else. There’s nothing to report on besides a car crash. And after you hear about him losing a potential eye, my (very uninformed) guess is the 49ers got to play with California public records laws.

Nothing indicates a cover-up beyond incorrectly identifying who was at fault. So why didn’t the 49ers just do what everyone else says and just say Shanahan was in a car wreck, and we’ll be updated when they feel we should be? Well, from what John Lynch said, it was more Shanahan’s decision, but the same question applies.
The fan in me does not care about the wreck beyond the details of the incident itself, because there’s nothing within that is newsworthy for reasons I explained above. Now as to why it wasn’t reported? We can argue the semantics all we want. I’m not going to give opinions or guess on who was asked to withhold what, but the consensus is the Shanahan family wanted to go at their own pace. Given Shanahan had a concussion, he probably wasn’t in the right mind when thinking through this, but that seems to be how everything materialized. I understand why some people think someone dropped the ball on this, but I also think it was trying to keep all parties comfortable. For a public figure like Kyle Shanahan, that’s not exactly possible.
