The Hockey News Ottawa: Senators Week In Review

by

It was another busy week in Sens Nation that saw the Ottawa Senators go 2-1 with wins over the Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators. Ironically, their 4-2 loss to the New York Islanders on Sunday might have been their best performance of the three. Sometimes you just run into a hot goalie.

Given that you can’t be online 24/7, we always like to make sure we provide Sens fans with an easy summary every week, presented here like a weekly newsletter, to ensure you don’t miss a thing.

We revisited the Jakob Chychrun trade that was made back in June, and while Chychrun is crushing it in goal scoring, putting up more goals than Ottawa’s seven-man unit combined, we believe it’s still a win-win for both teams involved in the deal.

The New York Rangers found themselves in a playful mood last week. Not only did they trade away their captain, but according to the New York Post, they claimed to be targeting Ottawa’s. As THN Ottawa’s Graeme Nichols wrote, the Sens have every right be ticked off by these continued Tkachuk rumours around the league.

The Sens also weren’t happy that Hockey Canada believes it had at least ten better options on defence than Carter Yakemchuk. Despite almost making his NHL team in October, the seventh overall pick wasn’t one of the ten players invited to World Junior selection camp, which begins tomorrow in Petawawa.

The Senators’ organization honoured the ‘Pizza Line’ last Monday, but let’s be honest, its underlying purpose to mend fences with Dany Heatley. It was a nice way to start the holiday season as “faithful friends who are dear to us gathered near to us once more.”

Luke Richardson is an Ottawa boy through and through. An Ottawa West Golden Knight, an Ottawa Sports Hall of Famer, a former Senator player, assistant coach, and the club’s AHL head coach. The man paid his dues to finally get an NHL head coaching job with the Chicago Blackhawks a couple of years ago. But with the club in last place overall again, and Connor Bedard scuffling, the Hawks let Richardson go this week.

The 4 Nations Faceoff rosters were named this week. The Senators will have representation on both Team USA and Team Sweden. See who made the grade.
