The Most Disappointing Thing About Saturday’s Duke-Michigan State Game

by

There was a bit of a fuss about Duke’s win over Michigan State Saturday and it was about the behavior of the Michigan State fans who, at one point in the game, chanted “Eff Cam Boozer! Eff Cam Boozer! Eff Cam Boozer!”

Well, they didn’t say Eff, but we’re sure you can fill in the blank and, in the end, Boozer Effed them more than they ever Effed Boozer.

Was it nice? No, obviously not. However, Duke fans have had their share of obnoxious behavior over the years so we’re not going to get all over Michigan State fans, many of whom were clearly not particularly sophisticated in, shall we say, the more genteel forms of intercourse.

As far as Spartan fans go, we were more impressed by this. The large guy in the hat looks like he had a particularly rough afternoon. What can you say? The Spartans have never beaten Duke at home.

Never.

We wouldn’t rain down obscenities if it was us, but if that’s what they want to do, that’s their business. We’d have a hard time with such constant failure too.

What we were more upset about was Jeremy Fears cheering them on from the foul line. We would have thought Tom Izzo would have put a stop to that, and maybe he did and we missed it, but that was the least classy thing we’ve seen in a while. We don’t think Jon Scheyer would have tolerated that classless behavior from one of his players and every Duke fan knows Mike Kryzyzewski would have blown a gasket if one of his had done that.

But in a way, it’s easy to understand. Duke beats Michigan State on the regular, whether it’s in Breslin, Cameron or anywhere else. Just like shooting 0-10, as Fears did, it’s bound to be frustrating.

Let’s just hope their frustration continues for a good while yet.
